Stoichiometry Calculator

Calculate the amount of product or reactant using mole ratios.

Formula

mol

Enter the moles of the known substance and the coefficients from the balanced chemical equation.

Stoichiometry Explained

Stoichiometry is the section of chemistry that involves using relationships between reactants and/or products in a chemical reaction to determine desired quantitative data. It is based on the law of conservation of mass.

Mole Ratio

The core of stoichiometry is the mole ratio, which is derived from the coefficients of a balanced chemical equation. It acts as a conversion factor between different substances in a reaction.

General Steps

  1. Balance the chemical equation.
  2. Convert given units to moles (if given in grams, liters, etc.).
  3. Use the mole ratio to calculate the moles of the desired substance. Molestarget=Molesgiven×CoefficienttargetCoefficientgivenMoles_{target} = Moles_{given} \times \frac{Coefficient_{target}}{Coefficient_{given}}
  4. Convert moles to desired units (if needed).
