Molar Mass Calculator
Calculate the molar mass of any chemical compound.
Formula
What is Molar Mass?
Molar mass is a physical property defined as the mass of a given substance (chemical element or chemical compound) divided by the amount of substance. The base SI unit for molar mass is kg/mol, but it is usually expressed in g/mol.
Calculation Method
To calculate the molar mass of a compound:
- Identify the elements present in the chemical formula.
- Find the atomic mass of each element from the Periodic Table.
- Multiply each atomic mass by the number of atoms of that element in the formula (the subscript).
- Sum the results to get the total molar mass.
Example: Water ()
- Hydrogen (H): 1.008 g/mol 2 = 2.016 g/mol
- Oxygen (O): 15.999 g/mol 1 = 15.999 g/mol
- Total: 18.015 g/mol
